Reventlow Scarab - Beautiful Winning American sports racer from the 50s and 60s
The Reventlow Scarab is sometimes called "The Most Beautiful Sports Racer You Never Heard Of."
American designers tried to show in the 1950s that their cars with big V8 engines could rival the European Ferraris, Maserati, and Jaguars. Some of them, like Briggs Cunningham, achieved some success.
Lance Reventlow, an heir of the Woolworth fortune, wanted to compete in professional sports car races in the United States. He hired some of the best Hot Rodders in California to design a sports racer for him. They created the Reventlow Scarab sports racer.
Reventlow commissioned three cars, one for his own use and two for other drivers. The main drivers were Chuck Daigh, Augie Pabst, and Harry Heuer.
The Reventlow Scarab was a successful racing car in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It still competes in Vintage Races across the United States today.
